Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed midfielder Kevin De Bruyne will miss the side’s EFL clash against Manchester United.

The Belgian playmaker picked up a calf injury in City’s 1-1 draw against Southampton, and had to be taken off at half time.

“He had a knock on the leg and he cannot play,” Guardiola said, before casting doubt on De Bruyne’s participation in City’s matches over the coming week.

“Hopefully [he can face] West Brom and Barcelona [but] he’s a doubt even next weekend.”

Guardiola added that full back Pablo Zabaleta was also unavailable, with captain Vincent Kompany was a game day decision.

“Pablo, I think not [will not play against United],” the manager added. “Vincent, I think he can but I don’t know if he will.”

“A derby is a derby,” he said. “It’s always special and so we are going to play a game like a game.
